I am part of a Detroit News article!

While “cruising the web” I stumbled across a Woodward Dream Cruise article in the Detroit News

Coolest Dream Cruise grilles and details

As I scrolled through the article, low and behold, there was the grille of MY Mustang! I was kind of taken aback that it was there and then I was pleased that it caught the eye of the photographer. All I can say is that I built it as a diversion from the normal Mustang grille but it gets some other attention because of that fact.

I am pleased with the outcome! Nice!

THE Woodward Dream Cruise 2014

Mustang Alley and the Ferndale Dream Cruise Show

Since I didn’t have to deliver my car today at 0630 it made my day a bit easier to manage. I was able to head out about 0930 and found a good parking spot and proceeded to check out all the sights and venues in and around the 9 Mile Road and Woodward corner.

There was lots going on with the festival and vendors on the west side of Woodward and the Ford Mustang Alley on the east side. As usual there was a nice manufacturers row in Mustang Alley. With Roush, Ford Motorsport, MRT and others. And the there were lots of Mustangs! They lined 9 Mile from Woodward not quite to Hilton.  They also filled the many side lots along the route. And it is my opinion that I don’t believe there were as many as last year. I may be mistaken but it appeared to me that way.

I wandered the Mustang Alley in search of the older Mustangs. I passed tons of the newer ones but they don’t interest me at all. There was even a lot full of all years of just green Bullit Edition Mustangs! I was able to find many of the first generations of Mustangs, 65 to 73, and check them out for any details that interested me. I did find a few that I was able to glean some ideas and layouts that I can use in my projects.

I did get some ideas like a unique single pin retainer for the trunk, a well done Duraspark unit mount, some way cool floor inserts and a slick seatbelt mount point. All in all it was a productive stroll through Mustang Alley and the surrounding venues.

I did take a break for lunch complete with a Turbo Dog beer and an Angus burger at  Howe’s Bayou on Woodward. And I ran into many friends and acquaintances in my extended wanderings. Super nice! I had the pleasure of spending some time with my son, Steve, and my grandson, Liam, walking a section of Woodward while they cruise their bikes along the route. Way super finish to a great day.

I will be going to the 50th Anniversary Show at Ford tomorrow and I will see if I can get some more ideas along the way. If my feet hold out it should be way cool. And getting there shouldn’t be a problem now that all the flooding of the great rain storm of 2014 have subsided. So I will have at it again tomorrow. That’s it for now.

Mustang Memories 50th Anniversary Show – I am in!

I am registered at the 2014 Mustang Memories Show at the Ford Development Center in Dearborn, MI on Sunday, August 17

I finally had my brain lucid enough to get my registration in for this landmark event! Ford has said it is going to be a bash and I believe them. So I decided to jump in and participate. They have my money and I have an entry. Way cool! Mustang Memories has been rescheduled so it is the day after THE WOODWARD DREAM CRUISE to let many of the Mustang enthusiasts  here for the Dream Cruise take a cruise to Ford’s Development Center and gather again. I am sure Mustang Alley will be full again with 800ish Mustangs on Dream Cruise day Saturday and most of them will more than likely reappear Sunday at the Ford Development Center.

I am really looking forward to this extra day of enjoying Mustangs. Stay tuned I will keep you informed.

I am in!

As of today I am again registered in Ford’s 2014 Mustang Alley at the Woodward Dream Cruise.

This year is the 50th Anniversary of the iconic Ford Mustang. Ford has promised to make it a memorable year long celebration. I am going to participate as much as I can. And this is one event I will be in.

I will be doing everything I can to get the 70 alive and well for the event. I should be able to pull it off. We will see.

So if you get a chance come see the celebration at one of the many events all over the country. See you there!

What the heck is that noise?

65 Mustang Coupe

It sounds like a popping in the exhaust

Just weeks before my grail of The Woodward Dream Cruise my 65 Mustang six cylinder has come up with a persistant popping in the exhaust. Both at idle and while running. I have never had this before. And it is bugging the fire out of me. So I will be attacking the problem this week to see if I can get a grip on it. I am suspecting fuel but could be electrical.

So far I have cleaned the carb, from the outside with no net effect. Thought it might be an exhaust manifold leak so I changed that. No net effect. Sameo Sameo. I am going to change the base gaskets on the carb and spacer to eliminate the possibility of leaks there. While I am at it I am going to clean and check out the distributor along with replacing the cap and rotor. The ignition is a Pertronix unit which has been proven flawless.

Beyond that I am looking at a rebuild of the carb as a last resort. Dunno. If you have any ideas let me know.

Woodward Dream Cruise 2012

Man, 6AM sure does come early!

Well…this is it folks ! The big day all of this cruisin and hangin has led up to. The weather report was for a spectacular cool day!  So I gotta grab the keys and head out to the staging area at Hilton and 9 Mile. Got there early enough to be almost the first one there. A few other cars are already onsite. But it was plenty of time to walk across the street to 7-11 and get a much needed LARGE cup of coffee.

Soon after that the staging kluge began. With over 700 Mustangs slated to be on display it got silly pretty fast. Within a short time they were lined up for blocks in all three other directions from the designated entry area. Once they opened the gates I ended up as the first one through because I was not “with” any group and wasn’t group parking . Soooooo .. I was FRONT ROW! The first guy in line. Primo spot and at the front. And with a quick wipe down and arrangement of Fred and the other stuff it was off to get some breakfast.

WDC12 - Mustang Alley 009

Front Row! Sun coming up

I stopped in at Hambo’s Coney Island a couple of blocks up on Woodward for some eggs and hash browns, and MORE COFFEE! So then I wandered back over to Mustang Alley for a day of calm relaxation in the middle of all the Dream Cruise mayhem! During this time I got a visit from a couple of friends who stopped by to check out my car and the happenings. My son, Steve, dropped in with my grandson, Liam, to check out Grandpa and the cars. So we walked around the festival for a bit and Liam even treated us to his version of the Dream Cruise right there in the parking lot! Sweeeet! The day was a perfect day for spectators and cars alike.

I did take my traditional [ 5 years now ] break for lunch at my friends at Zion Lutheran Church a few blocks south on Woodward. The dogs, chips and water are a nice break and always great to relax under the trees eat and listen to some acoustic music. For a while at least. After wandering about a 10 block area in and around  the Ferndale Festival it was back to Mustang Alley.

After hanging and wandering through the Mustangs for the rest of the afternoon I stayed till 7ish and then packed it in. Another great Dream Cruise and I am wore out! So it is back to the house, unload the stuff and download all the pics and write some blog pages. So there you have it. A week on Woodward, lots of cars, lots of cruising, lots of good friends, and one hell of a good time!

Some people don’t like it but I do! So there! Ready for next year!

WDC Vacation Day 3 – Tuesday

Woodward Dream Cruise 2012

Tuesday – August 14

Tough day but still a good one. Had a nasty episode with a tooth overnight and had to make some quick decisions. Headed to the tooth doc for an eval and subsequently was sent to an oral surgeon to have it removed. So all was done by 3ish and I was able to get me and my sore face out on Woodward by 4.  Hurt like hell before but it is frickin great now.

Yes, there were drugs involved, and NO I am not operating any heavy equipment! So it was not a problem.

Fred volunteered to drive but that didn’t work out because …. he can’t reach the pedals! So I went ahead and drove. So we had a great time and Northwood was packed.

Yep!b I made it!
